Swamp City

Random pastel again. Started with some oozing 'leaves' then worked a city into the background...

Pastel Anger

Just some pastel work in the making...

3.5 x 2

My first victim: an old paper swatch book. I've cut up the cover into lots of 3.5" x 2" pieces of cardstock. The intention is to create some business cards by highlighting some choice words left from the cropped cards, adding my info, and omitting some existing info.

The Grellow Look

Just tryin to stay motivated and creative. My goal is to do something in the studio everyday, so lots of things I post may make no sense at all. Just bear with me.

Building Print #2

So this is the same image, but on much more interesting stock. I had some fun with these.

And another detail.

These images were printed at the New Orleans Glass Works and Printmaking Studio.

This print is from a photo I took in Lafayette, Louisiana.

3 Little Indians

These prints started off as photos taken of an Indian (I assume) mask.

I've made the Switch

Okay, I've decided now - I'll now refer to the studio as Grellow Studio. Grellow Design didn't seem to capture what I'd like to be all about.

That's all.

Name Change Already!?

So exactly an hour ago, I said I hope to keep the name Grellow Design (and URL), but now I'm thinking I like 'Grellow Studio' better. It would encompass everything that I do in the studio right? Screen printing, book making, oil painting, charcoal/pastel, etc. Damnit. Well nothing will change tonight (morning), but stay tuned for a name/URL change...Not like anyone's read this blog yet. Anyway, here were some (now old) ideas for Grellow Design (just crap sketches for now).

Photos of the Studio

The photos are a bit blurry as I was hoping to capture the natural lighting of the studio, but it was 2:30am and I was running on 4 cups of coffee. Needless to say, my hand was a tad shaky. You'll still get the idea.

In the photos, you may see things like:
• oil painting supplies, paints, canvases, etc
• art box full of charcoal/pastels
• book binding stuff
• cutting/trimming supplies
• lots of masking tape
• coffee
• cutting board/table
• screen prints
• spray paints
• materials to screen print on (old album covers, paper swatch books, other old books)
• you may even be able to see the lawn mower in there
• etc

Grellow Design?

So I've been thinking of names for whatever I'm going to do. I guess like a company name? Not sure why quite yet, but it's giving me something to do/create. So I may be sticking with Grellow Design. I hope so anyway because that's the name of this blog (and URL). So where the hell did Grellow Design come from? Well it's pretty cheesy, but hopefully catchy. I just told myself I didn't want to use my name for a "company" and I wanted something unique and creative. So...I started 'fusing' together names of primary and secondary colors. For example:
• blue+purple=blurple
• green+orange=grange
• orange+green=oreen and
• green+yellow=you guessed it - grellow

get it? weird huh?

Studio Space!

So the latest project/thoughts have been to convert half of the shed into an art studio. With intentions of bustin out some screen prints, maybe do some oil painting and to have a little "studio away from home". So I've been gathering the screen printing materials I need/want...but I still need a few things:
• screens
• ink
• emulsion/trough
• squeegee
• probably lots of other things...but most importantly,
• designs/ideas!

Some pretty major things, but I'm taking this slow. In the future, I'm hoping to screen print posters, post cards, tee-shirts, stickers, etc, etc. I'll keep you posted on how things go.
